Parma Day Trip 2019.
Our trip to Northern Italy had to include Parma!! Although we went at Christmas and the cheese tours were closed, I still had to experience my ultimate favorite cheese…parmesan! What a fabulous little town. The people were so kind and the cafes were lined up on a small street. So fun to walk past a gentleman with an accordian singin Christmas music. Hard to choose but we stopped at La Cucina. They did not disappoint as we told our waiter to bring us their traditional dishes to try. Of course it was this beautiful board of meats and cheeses. Need I say more that I was in my happy place. Add a glass of wine on a chilly but sunny afternoon.
To top it off he surprised us with Sbrisolona con salsa all’inglese! Of course I had to take a picture of it because I would have never remembered it and had to make when I got home. Crema inglese is an English custard dessert that is spooned. Less dense than custard, does not contain starch and thickens because of the disproportionate amount of egg yolk downed in cream. Served with dried dessert like sbrisoloa. Sbrisolona is a crunchy Italian torta. Not sure how to exactly tell you what it is other than its a cross between granola, cookie and a cake LOL! It is it’s own category in itself that is beyond delicious. I did make and will post a recipe once I make again.
So as this post should have been about parmesan cheese (I will definitely go back for the cheese), it ended up being about a little café on Christmas in Parma finding the most exquisite dessert! Love life and how things change if your open! Ciao
